The trays were prepared by the students of Rooms 1, 2, 7, and 8 and presented to the teachers on Wai Kru Day. The student representatives of each room came up on the stage and explain the significance of their try designs as follows.
Room 1
My name is Chanisara Chanto, and I am the representative from Room 1. Today, I would like to talk about our tray, and what each part of the tray represents.
As you can see, our tray comes in a tone of pink. Pink is the color of our uniform. Pink is a color of gentleness, delicacy, femininity, and most importantly, love. Some people think that pink is a color for girls, that it only represents softness and fragility. We disagree. We think pink is a nice color, and that it speaks of sincerity and kindness.
You will notice the incense and the candles we carefully place in the middle. Incenses are used to display respect, and candles…faith and commitment. Therefore, in this honorable ceremony, we would like to offer these incenses and candles to show our gratitude toward our beloved teachers.
On top of the pink flowers, you will see ‘Dok Rak’, or crown flowers. We choose crown flowers because we would like to dedicate these tiny crowns to all the teachers, who teach us our 7 subjects. We appreciate their hard work and patience. All the teachers deserve these crowns for trying their best to make us better.
Below, you will see a net of ‘Dok Pud’. We think they represent us. Don’t you think ‘Dok Pud’ somehow look very similar to unbloomed flowers? We think they are us, unbloomed and inexperienced. But one day, teachers, one day, these flowers you have been tending to, would bloom. And when we do, we promise to be the most beautiful of all.
Last but not the least, we have an alcohol gel. We would like you to take care of yourself and be safe. We, students, would like you to know that we care about you, very much. We wish you all good health, wealth, happiness, and prosperity. Please watch your hands with our alcohol gel and keep a social distance. Thank you very much.
Room 2
My name is Benyapa Durongbhand. I am the representative from room 2. Today I will talk about our tray.
Our tray is decorated with Yellow Chrysanthemum, Globe Amaranth, and Ferns. In Thailand, Chrysanthemum frequently symbolizes happiness, purity, and well-being. Globe Amaranth as you can see, it promotes longevity and health. It represents the love between us and out teachers that will last forever. The color tones of our tray are bright yellow and purple because it represents our lively and colorful characteristics. The ferns represent the knowledge that we get from teachers in CHIJ school. As for those bases, the firm base signifies stability and will guarantee our success in the future.
Thank you, Miss Intira, our advisor, for taking care of us so well. Thank you for all the teachers. We want you to know how special and appreciated you are by all of us. Thank you for providing us with the knowledge and skills that you have taught us. Thank you, our wonderful teachers.
Room 7
My name is Tammakorn Klansaeng from Room 7. “The light of the world, the beacon in the dark, and the hope that gives us strength to survive are our teachers”. Today is a special day known as the “Teacher’s Day. A day kept aside to honour, apologize, show gratitude, respect, and love our teachers for always guiding and bestowing us with all the teachings, moral values, and discipline. This morning I am going to talk about the meaning and symbol of our tray.
The design of our tray is shaped like a “castle” made out of banana leaves in which Thai people have been using for a very long time. Behind the banana leaves, there are candles that symbolize light in the darkness. Our teachers are like candles that gives light to the path we walk through.
Our tray is consisting of many meaningful flowers as well. The crown flower symbolizes the beauty of love by our teachers. The white flower depicts purity because they are always there to teach us the power of purity. In the middle of the tray, there are globe amaranth which symbolizes endless love from our teachers. They always do their best to teach us so that we will be successful someday. We also used Kao-tok that represents discipline. Naturally, each one of us sometimes has this laziness in us in terms of learning, but we must know and learn how to control ourselves. Our teachers are always there to discipline us like our parents.
And last but not the least, on behalf of Room 7, we would like to thank you all our beloved teachers for loving, teaching us, and most especially, for your selfless service and dynamic support. We are always grateful to you. Thank you!
Room 8
Happy Wai Kru Day. My name is Ariya Jansuk. I am here to represent room 8 and explain the symbolism of the flower tray we have made for you today.
The theme of Room 8’s flower tray this year is the famous Barbie doll. It reminds us that, through the virtues of love, care and competence, girls all over the world have the strength to achieve their limitless potential. Today, Barbie symbolizes us, the CHIJ students. It is a reminder that, with the boundless love and support from our teachers, we can also achieve our limitless potential.
Barbie’s skirt is decorated with a beautiful array of flowers, each one with its own meaning. The roses represent beauty and courage. The deep red hue of the roses represent the strength that our teachers have in dealing with the day-to-day struggles of taking care of their students. It also signifies the grace that our teachers have as they face these struggles. (To the teachers) We, the students, see your hard work and although you may have different characteristics, you shine brightly in or eyes. The Gook flowers represent the strength of the bond between teachers and students. It is a sign that wherever we may go and whoever we may become, we will always have our teachers’ love and support. We hope to have a lasting relationship with our teachers, without conflict or resentment with each other. Finally, we have the Dok Rak which represents our respect towards our teachers. With these flowers, we acknowledge the wisdom that they wholeheartedly give to us and their zeal as they do so.
I would not be here today without the unending support from my educators both here in CHIJ and from my previous school. To my dear teachers, thank you for believing in us and in our potential. Thank you for the kind words of encouragement when we are on the verge of giving up. On this special occasion, I wish you all the best in health and happiness. Thank you.
Room 9
To our beloved teachers, “Happy Wai Kru Day”. I am Isare Suukbua from room 9. People always said that the school is a second home but for me, the school is a school. The difference is that a home is a place to rest but the school is a place to learn. According to the Cambridge Dictionary, the word “teacher” means a person who instructs or trains others, especially in school.
Since the first day in this school, Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus, I felt nervous and at the same time excited because this is a big change in my life like everyone else’s. However, the teachers made me feel safe and told me that everything was going to be fine. They taught me things that are important for the future, etiquette, working in groups, organizing things, and planning to build something. I used to be a follower in my previous school because there were lots of students, but here, I can decide things by myself and share ideas with friends. Our teachers trust and always encourage us to do our best in events like Friendship Day, Speech Festival, and Christmas Day because it is helpful for our future. They are really open and always give a good advice, even in little things. All the teachers always speak nice words and give compliments, which make me feel great about myself and want to work harder. They are always enthusiastic and smile while they are teaching. I can feel their happiness in their faces when we, students, ask questions and give ideas. On this special day, I wish to tell you that I have always felt grateful for all the things you have told and taught me.
As we celebrate Wai Kru Day, I wish for all my teachers the best in everything they do and continue being good teachers. On behalf of all CHIJ students, we would like to thank all of you for your support and dedication to help us become the best that we can be.
